job summary: Description The Linux/VMware Administrator is responsible for installing and supporting servers running Red Hat Linux and VMware ESXi on HPE hardware and in Azure cloud. The position is responsible for researching and troubleshooting infrastructure issues for servers used primarily to host Oracle applications and databases. The Linux/VMware Administrator will assist in all facets of infrastructure lifecycle management, perform administrative activities such as OS installs, performance tuning, backup/restore, and patching. Responsibilities Participate as a member of a team that works collaboratively to ensure Linux infrastructure is available and functioning properly to service business applications.Evaluate, design, plan, and implement Linux and VMware solutions to support business initiatives.Perform Linux and VMware patching and upgrades.Lead performance tuning to ensure optimal performance of Linux and storage infrastructure.Document procedures and update standards for new or modified systems. Respond to systems alerts and participate in a rotation for 24x7 after-hours Production support.Review Red Hat and VMware security notifications and deploy updates if deemed necessary.Perform capacity planning and space management. Gather, evaluate, and measure KPIs and report findings. Proactively identify problems and provide solutions to management before implementing changes. Monitor critical systems and take corrective actions prior to failures.Design, implement, and support high availability server infrastructure to maximize system availability.Collaborate on roadmap for continuous improvement with respect to Backup and Recovery, Disaster Recovery, and Business Continuity.Prepare for Disaster Recovery verifying that test plans are documented and reviewed and administering backups.Perform Proof of Concepts for new software and hardware solutions.Establish and maintain security and compliance controls. Implement security and compliance initiatives to ensure Linux and VMware infrastructure is secure.Stay abreast of current and emerging IT trends to drive innovation and develop technology roadmaps.Communicate effectively both verbally and written to IT Leadership and Business Stakeholder when system or application issues occur. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.Minimum 5 years experience managing and maintaining Red Hat Linux and VMware environments including Red Hat ClusteringExperience with design, implementation, and support of High Availability infrastructure solutions.Experience upgrading and patching using Red Hat Satellite required.Proficient at writing shell scripts to deliver automation and new efficiencies.
